What is Choice Gas?

The Choice Gas program in Nebraska and Wyoming allows you to choose your natural gas commodity supplier and a pricing option that best suits your needs.

When your previous selection term ends, you can choose to stay with your current supplier or submit a new selection online, through your supplier, or by mailing in a selection form during the selection period.

What's the difference between a utility and a supplier?

Your supplier is the company that provides your natural gas commodity. In Nebraska and Wyoming, you can select your supplier and pricing option. Black Hills Energy Services is the supplier chosen by tens of thousands of satisfied customers.

The utility transports natural gas to your home or farm, sends your monthly bill and handles any service issues you may have. Regardless of which supplier you select, your utility is the same.

If I change my commodity supplier, will my service be disrupted?

No, your service will not be disrupted. The only difference that results from changing a commodity supplier will be the price you pay and the Natural Gas Commodity Supplier listed under the Energy Supply portion of your bill.

What do I do if I'm new to the state and don't have a supplier or utility?

The utility will set up your account to begin your service. Inquire of the utility if there is an existing natural gas commodity Supplier at the address you move into. If you are eligible to select a Supplier, you will receive a selection form in the mail.

The utility will issue you an account and control number. At that point, give us a call and we'll get you all set up with Black Hills Energy Services.

When is the Choice Gas selection period?

The Choice Gas selection period varies, depending on where you live and whether you are shopping for your home or your farm:

How do I make my selection?

The Choice Gas program offers several convenient selection options during the Choice Gas enrollment period.

Sign up with the supplier you want to select.

Sign up online at the Choice Gas website.

Mail in your ballot form to: Choice Gas Program, PO Box 1158, Rapid City, SD 57709

Use the utility IVR line.

Or rollover to your current supplier and price option.

What constitutes a "valid" selection?

The utility considers a selection valid when you submit your choice through one of the accepted submission methods on or before the program's deadline. Confirmation codes have expiration dates. The utility deems the first valid selection they receive as your final choice. Make sure to record your verification number if you're submitting your selection online. If you mail in your selection form, you'll need to sign it for it to be recognized as valid.

What if I don't make a selection?

If you don’t submit a valid selection on or before the deadline, your account automatically rolls over to your current supplier and pricing option. Your pricing will be determined by your current supplier’s default rate.

What if I move during the Choice Gas program year?

If you move from one service address to another, or you are a new customer who moves to a service address within the Choice Gas territory, you will continue with the supplier previously selected for that new address. If the service address you move into was not active during the April selection period or you are a new construction customer, the utility will mail you a selection packet.

For more information about service address issues, call the utility at 888-890-5554.

Does Choice Gas affect distribution charges?
