🔄 Choice Gas Program: Your Energy, Your Way
The Choice Gas Program in Nebraska and Wyoming gives you the power to choose your natural gas commodity supplier and select a price option that fits your needs.
🗓️ When It's Time to Renew
At the end of your current term, you’ll have the opportunity to:
• Stay with your current supplier, or
• Make a new selection—online, through your supplier, or by mailing in a selection form during the official selection period.
It’s all about giving you control, flexibility, and confidence in your energy choices.
🔍 What's the Difference Between a Utility and a Supplier?
Your supplier is the company that provides the natural gas commodity you use. In Nebraska and Wyoming, you get to choose your supplier and the price option that works best for you. Black Hills Energy Services (BHES) is proud to be the trusted choice of tens of thousands of satisfied customers.
Your utility, on the other hand, is responsible for delivering that natural gas to your home, business, or farm. They also send your monthly bill and handle any natural gas service-related issues. No matter which supplier you choose, your utility stays the same.
🔄 Will My Service Be Interrupted If I Switch Suppliers?
Not at all! Changing your natural gas commodity supplier won’t affect your service. The only things that change are:
• The price you pay for your natural gas commodity, and
• The supplier name listed on your bill.
Your natural gas will still be delivered and billed by your utility, and all service-related support stays the same—no disruptions, just a new commodity price option.
🏡 New to Nebraska or Wyoming?
Welcome! If you’re new to the state and haven’t selected a natural gas commodity supplier yet, here’s how to get started:
🔧 Step 1: Set Up Your Utility Service
Your local utility will help you open an account and begin your natural gas service. Be sure to ask if there’s already a supplier assigned to your new address.
📬 Step 2: Watch for Your Selection Form
If you're eligible to choose a supplier, you’ll receive a Choice Gas selection form in the mail. This gives you the opportunity to pick the natural gas commodity supplier and natural gas commodity price option that best fits your needs.
📞 Step 3: Call Us to Get Started
Once your utility provides your account and control number, give us a call! We’ll walk you through the process and get you set up with Black Hills Energy Services quickly and easily.
🕒 When is the Choice Gas selection period?

🕒 Can I Sign Up Before My Choice Gas Selection Period?
If you are a residential/commercial customer there is no early enrollment, however if you are an agricultural customer, you can sign up for the Choice Gas program prior to your selection date by giving us a call and then completing the Delegation Agreement right here on our site. Please remember to sign your delegation agreement before you send it, otherwise it is not valid. By signing a delegation agreement you are authorizing your supplier to obtain your control number from the utility and make your Choice Gas selection on your behalf for the price option, price, and term indicated on the agreement.
It depends on your customer type:
🏠 Residential & Commercial Customers
Early enrollment isn’t available. You’ll need to wait until your official selection period to choose your natural gas commodity supplier and pricing option. – selection period dates(hyperlink)

Good news! You can sign up early. Just give us a call, 1-800-413-1966.
📋 What Information Do I Need to Make a Choice Gas Selection?
Before you can make your Choice Gas selection, you’ll need three key pieces of information—all provided by your utility:
🔢 Account Number
This identifies your utility account and can be found on your monthly bill or your selection form.
📍 Service Point Number (also called a Premise Number)
This number is tied to your specific property. If you have multiple service points under one account, be sure to verify the address when reviewing price options.
🔐 Control Number
This allows you to make your selection online or through a supplier. You’ll find it in your selection packet, or you can:
• Look it up online at www.Choicegas.com
• Call the utility’s customer care team at 888-890-5554
📝 What Exactly Am I Selecting?
When you participate in the Choice Gas Program, you're choosing three key things:
💵 Price
• You’re selecting the price you’ll pay for your natural gas commodity.
Black Hills Energy Services offers simple, transparent natural gas commodity price options designed to fit your needs.

🔌 Supplier

👉 Choose BHES as your natural gas commodity supplier
📆 Term

Black Hills Energy Services offers one- and two-year terms so you can choose what works best for you. Three-year terms available to Agricultural and Large Commercial customers.
👉 Select BHES and lock in your term
📝 How do I make my selection?
During the Choice Gas enrollment period, you can choose your supplier using any of the following convenient methods:
• Directly with your preferred supplier
• Online: Visit choicegas.com or you can log into your Black Hills Energy customer account
• By mail: Send your completed ballot to
Choice Gas Program
PO Box 1158
Rapid City, SD 57709
• By phone: Use the utility’s IVR system at 888 890 5554
📝 What counts as a “valid” selection?
A selection is considered valid when:
• It is submitted through one of the approved methods on or before the enrollment deadline
• It is the first valid selection the utility receives (this becomes your final choice)
• Online selections include a recorded verification number
• Mailed ballot forms are signed
Confirmation codes issued by suppliers have expiration dates, so be sure to act before they expire.
🔁 What Is Automatic Rollover?
If you don’t make a Choice Gas selection—whether online at choicegas.com, by phone with your supplier, or by mailing in your selection form—your account will automatically roll over.
Here’s What That Means:
• Your current natural gas commodity supplier and price option will continue
• Your final natural gas commodity price will be set by your supplier 15 days after the selection period ends.
⚠️ Things to Keep in Mind:
Rollover natural gas commodity prices may go up or down depending on natural gas market conditions. All price options carry some risk due to market volatility. Supplier prices may reflect market changes.
🚚 What Happens If I Move During the Choice Gas Program Year?
If you move to a new address within the Choice Gas territory—whether you're relocating or moving into a newly built home—here’s what to expect:
🏠 Moving to an Existing Service Address
You’ll continue with the supplier previously selected for that address. Your natural gas commodity price option and supplier will stay the same unless you choose to make a change during the next selection period.
🆕 New Construction or Inactive Address
If the address wasn’t active during the last selection period (April for Residential/Commercial or February for Agricultural), or if you're moving into a newly constructed home, the utility will mail you a selection packet so you can choose your supplier and natural gas commodity price option.
